Health Promoting Behaviors as Suicide Prevention with Dr. Daniel DeBrule
Dr. Daniel DeBrule, Psychologist and Health Behavior Coordinator here at the Houston VAMC, talked with Adam about the role of health promotion in suicide prevention. They explore how overall well-being contributes to mental health, and how a wholistic approach to the individual may engage Veterans and others that do not find traditional care impactful. Dr. DeBrule has been an avid suicidologist for over a decade, and was the Director of the Suicide Prevention Research Laboratory of Indiana University South Bend for 5 years prior to pivoting into health and medical psychology. He continues to be active as a clinician, researcher, and consultant within the VA/Texas Medical Center and in private practice, where he trains MDs, RNs, and others in approaching suicide prevention with interpersonal connection, health promotion, and reduction of maladaptive health behaviors.

The Gaming Community Comes to the Rescue with Stack Up's Elvis Walden
Adam and Elvis met at an AAS social for web/social media enthusiast. They found they both are avid gamers and this podcast was launched. Elvis Walden runs StOP (Stack Up Overwatch Program) for StackUp.org. StackUp: "Founded in 2015, Stack Up (TAX ID: 47-5424265) brings both veterans and civilian supporters together through a shared love of video gaming through our primary programs: The Stacks, Air Assaults and the Stack Up Overwatch Program [StOP]."

We got started at the 2018 AAS conference by sitting down with someone we only knew through his Twitter presence, @marshman503, and an intriguing reply to our email request for people to interview as part of podcasts.
