* Follow the instructions of your primary care provider for the proper dosage and use of bupropion.
- Take bupropion as directed. Do not crush, chew, or divide tablets.
- Bupropion is usually taken as a 150mg tablet for 8 to 12 weeks, starting before your Quit Date:
Days 1-3: 1 tablet in the morning
Starting Day 4: 1 tablet in the morning and 1 tablet in the afternoon
- Make sure to have 8 hours between each dose. Take the first dose when you wake up in the morning and the second dose 8 hours later. Try to avoid taking the second dose late at night otherwise you might have trouble sleeping.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
- Bupropion can be used together with the nicotine patch, or you can use nicotine gum or nicotine lozenges when you have strong cravings.
Do not take bupropion if you:
- Have a history of seizures
- Have an eating disorder like anorexia or bulimia
- Drink more than 2 alcoholic drinks each day and then suddenly stop drinking alcohol
- Are currently taking medicine for depression or other mental health disorder. Talk to your primary care provider (PCP) to see if bupropion will work with your other medications.
