Joseph Barron, PhD
Education and Implementation Specialist
Biography: Dr. Joseph Barron joined the Center for Integrated Healthcare in April 2021 as an Education and Implementation Specialist in the Education and Implementation core. He provides consultation and support to the Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) field for implementation, training, and resource development, as well as expansion of measurement-based care and evidence-informed interventions. Dr. Barron earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Dakota in 2009. He completed predoctoral internship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, and postdoctoral residency at Tampa General Hospital. He began his VA career in 2012 at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System where he practiced as a PCMHI co-located collaborative clinician. He advanced to become PCMHI Program Manager and led successful performance improvement efforts to enhance and standardize integrated behavioral healthcare. Subsequently, executive leadership appointed Dr. Barron to direct interdisciplinary initiatives to reinvigorate Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) services. He served as co-Lead PCMHI Trainer for VISN 8, assisting in facilitation of many regional and national competency trainings. In addition to PCMHI leadership, Dr. Barron supervised psychologists and master's level clinicians throughout the mental health service line. He is passionate about coordination of collaborative, team-based care across the continuum of services, recognizing PCMHI as a foundational component.
