Education Core: Disseminating and Empowering
In the Mid-Atlantic MIRECC Education Core, we are developing innovative educational resources to support our Veterans and diverse audiences. Over the years we have disseminated meaningful educational materials that positively impacted the mental health of OEF/OIF/ OND Veterans and their families. We are entering a new contemporary era to target all audiences with our projects, which include Veterans, families and friends, clergy, community members, health care trainees, and health care providers (VA and non-VA) both, within VISN 6 and nationally. Our integrated strategy for instructional development and dissemination encompasses conventional and modern pedagogies. This multimodal approach includes a vast repertoire of delivery methods including live presentations, print materials (i.e., newsletters, handouts), and other web-based resources. At the MIRECC we are committed to closing the gap between translational research and the Veterans community. Our role is to translate, deliver and publicize challenging research outcomes, clinical and scientific concepts, intentionally and appropriately. Therefore, the information conveyed is simplified, pertinent and useful to our diverse community audiences in order to effectively bridge the gap between research and clinical care issues. We believe that the dissemination of relevant scientific-based information fosters the betterment of society through improved health outcomes. The mission of the Education Core is to improve Veterans access to timely, high-quality care through the following multiple channels: Veteran and Veteran family-facing products, Professional and community-facing products and National consultation and service. In addition, as a critical part of our efforts to serve our nation's Veterans and their families, the Mid-Atlantic MIRECC publishes an electronic quarterly newsletter entitled Briefings. Our new and improved newsletter platform is concise and serves as an effective vehicle to deliver our most recent happenings in terms of research, education and clinical areas.
