VISN 17 Center of Excellence
VA-CERP Internship
The VA Center of Excellence Research Program (VA-CERP) is a two-semester research internship for students entering their Junior or Senior years at Baylor University or Tarleton State University. The program is designed to help students gain research experience in a clinical research setting and prepare for graduate school, medical school, or post-baccalaureate careers. The internship class begins in the Fall semester and requires a 10-hour per week commitment, of which eight hours are spent gaining hands-on research experience, one hour is dedicated to attending didactic trainings, and another hour is devoted to reading and writing activities. At the end of the program, students will present a research poster at their university and submit a literature review paper on a specific mental health topic. Graduates from the VA-CERP Program have gone on to attend and graduate from medical school, graduate school for psychology, and pharmacy school, making VA-CERP one of the most successful undergraduate training programs in the country.
