- MIRECC Role(s): Director (Psychiatry), VA Advanced Fellowship in Mental Health Research and Treatment (VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System)
- Bio: Isabella Soreca, M.D., is an expert in psychiatry and sleep medicine with a track record of productive research on the interface between behavior and physical health. She has characterized sleep and circadian rhythms in patients with bipolar disorder from a number of vantage points including the relationship between chronotype, sleep duration, meal timing and metabolic health. She has used behavioral intervention, especially exercise, to reduce cravings, negative mood, cue reactivity and sleep changes in response to acute nicotine withdrawal in smokers. She has published a number of peer-reviewed papers, with an empirical focus on sleep, chronic medical burden in individuals with severe mental illness. In addition to her scientific background, Dr. Soreca has clinical expertise in the management of co-occurring psychiatric and sleep disorders. She is currently a staff physician at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) in sleep medicine and behavioral health.
