Community of Research
VA Mid-Atlantic MIRECC

Investigating the genetic underpinnings of post-deployment mental health conditions to advance precision approaches to Veteran care.

About this community

The Genetics Research Community of Research (CoR) brings together investigators with expertise in molecular genetics, psychiatric genomics, and translational neuroscience to study how genetic variation contributes to risk and resilience for post-deployment mental health conditions including PTSD, depression, and substance use disorders.

Our research leverages large-scale genomic datasets, biobanks, and collaborative networks to identify genetic markers associated with Veteran mental health outcomes. Findings from this CoR inform efforts to develop genetically-informed prevention strategies and personalized treatment approaches for Veterans and their families.

The Genetics CoR maintains active collaborations with the Million Veteran Program (MVP) and other VA research networks, positioning mid-Atlantic investigators at the forefront of psychiatric genetics research.
