VA Mid-Atlantic MIRECC

Investigating the biological and neural mechanisms underlying psychiatric conditions in Veterans — bridging basic and translational neuroscience to develop more effective, targeted approaches to prevention and treatment.

About this community

The Neuroscience Community of Research (CoR) brings together investigators who study the biological foundations of mental health conditions affecting Veterans, including PTSD, depression, traumatic brain injury, and substance use disorders.

Our work spans multiple levels of analysis — from molecular and cellular mechanisms to neural circuits and systems-level brain function — to better understand how trauma, stress, and injury alter the brain. We integrate findings across genetics, psychophysiology, electrophysiology, and cognitive neuroscience to identify targets for intervention and improve Veteran outcomes.
