MIRECC/CoE High Impact Educator Award

OVERVIEW

The MIRECC/CoE High Impact Educator Award recognizes outstanding contributions to education, dissemination, and implementation within the VA consistent with the MIRECC and CoE mission. The award honors an individual who has demonstrated exemplary dedication and innovation in educating Veterans, trainees, VA mental health professionals, and other stakeholders. Recipients of this award have led initiatives that have produced tangible outcomes and contributed to advancing mental health care for Veterans. They have actively contributed to fostering, highlighting, teaching, and disseminating research and clinical practices within and outside the VA community, inspiring researchers and clinicians to pursue excellence in mental health research and practice.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for the MIRECC/CoE High Impact Educator Award, nominees must meet all the following requirements:

  1. VA Employment Status. Is a minimum of 5/8th VA employee with an affiliation with a MIRECC/CoE.
  2. Current Educator. Has demonstrated record of educational activities at a VA facility for at least the previous 5 years.
  3. First-Time Awardee. Has not previously received the MIRECC/CoE High Impact Educator Award.

NOMINATION/REVIEW PROCESS

  • Can be nominated by a peer or nominate themselves using the application available here.
  • Applications must be submitted to noosha.niv@va.gov by February 1st.
  • Dr. Niv will do a first pass to ensure eligibility and disseminate applications to members of the review committee.
  • Members of the review committee will rate the candidates using the criteria below on a scale of 1-5. Reviews are due to Dr. Niv by March 1st.
  • The review committee will meet in March to select the winner.
  • The award will be presented at the in-person MIRECC meeting in the Spring.

MIRECC/CoE HIGH IMPACT EDUCATOR AWARD CRITERIA

  1. Evidence of the nominee’s work in educating Veterans, trainees, mental health professionals, and other stakeholders through the development and adoption of education/clinical products (e.g., intervention manuals, videos, podcasts, infographics, brochures, handouts, newsletters, white papers, and websites) to deliver research findings and clinical best practices to widespread VA and external audiences.
  2. Training and Implementation. Actively contributes to training and implementation efforts within and outside the VA community. This may include organizing and/or delivering local, regional, and national training for clinicians, researchers, Veterans, community members, and trainees, providing clinical consultation, creating/maintaining technical support centers, and developing other tools or initiatives to assist with implementation.
  3. Evidence of Impact. Relevance of the nominee’s work to the MIRECC’s mission of improving Veteran care. Reviewers look for examples of activities and initiatives that have produced tangible outcomes related to knowledge, skills, expertise, and clinician attitudes and behaviors, ultimately contributing to advancing mental health care for Veterans.
  4. Other Notable Considerations/Impacts. Has an extensive record of active collaboration and support of education, dissemination, and implementation throughout the enterprise, shown leadership in administration that facilitates education and training, shown responsiveness to operational partners, enhanced the visibility and reputation of the MIRECCs/CoEs, promoted MIRECC culture, and served as an ambassador for the Centers.
