Pilot Study Grant Opportunity for VISN 16 and San Antonio Researchers

Pilot studies are a foundation for supporting large-scale, federally funded research. Our Pilot Study Research Program is a great opportunity for investigators who are interested in pilot funding for studies that aim to improve Veterans’ access to high quality mental health and substance use treatment services, as well as to help community partners better serve the behavioral health needs of rural and other underserved Veterans. We invite pilot study applications that support our mission:

To promote equity in engagement, access, and quality of mental health care for Veterans facing barriers to care, especially rural Veterans.

In addition to encouraging proposals addressing the needs of rural Veterans, we also encourage submission of proposals addressing the needs of other underserved and vulnerable Veteran populations, including those facing access barriers and/or disparities in the quality of mental healthcare due to age, race or ethnicity, birth sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or socioeconomic status.

This request for pilot study applications is intended to increase both the quantity and quality of federally funded research that will help us better understand the experiences of underserved Veterans and to support development and dissemination of evidence-based practices that can make a real difference in their lives.

Researchers in VISN 16 and those located in San Antonio, Texas (VISN 17) are invited to apply for a pilot study grant. We accept applications four times a year. Visit our research webpage to download the request for applications to apply. The next deadline to submit a proposal is April 1, 2021. Please contact Ellen Fischer, PhD (FischerEllenP@uams.edu) with any questions.
