The VA National Mental Health Recovery & Wellness Webinar Series is sponsored in partnership by the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Services Section in the OMHSP, the VISN 5 Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) and the Veterans Health Administration Employee Education System. The webinars are focused on presenting advancements in recovery-focused mental health care occurring in the VHA and community. The webinars occur at 1 PM ET the second Tuesday of each month. Common Humanity: A Rainbow Among the Storm of Stigma is a learning opportunity to define stigma, it’s subtypes of internalized and external, it’s origins and key facts. We will explore the common deleterious effects of stigma as a global driver of disease that public health researchers have been able to glean through rigorous meta data analysis from around the world. We will shift to a micro level look at what research has found to be common negative impacts of stigma on individuals, how to measure these effects and what helping professionals can do to ease stigma.
