Education Overview
Rocky Mountain MIRECC endeavors to disseminate useful information about suicide prevention in ways that are accessible to Veterans and the community at large, and evaluate strategies to translate research-informed practices into everyday care.
For Veterans
Uniting for Suicide Postvention (USPV)
If you lose someone to suicide, it can be a tremendously painful experience. The Rocky Mountain MIRECC (in partnership with the VA Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention), has developed a website for suicide postvention that provides information, suggestions, and best practices to help you or another individual process suicide loss. Visit the USPV website to learn more.
How to Talk to a Child about a Suicide Attempt in Your Family
If there has been a recent suicide attempt in your family, this may be one of the toughest experiences you and your children may ever face. It is important to take care of yourself, so that you are better able to care for your child. Learn more by visiting our T2K website.

Multimedia
Visual Abstracts

A primary goal of the Rocky Mountain MIRECC Education Core is take the research that is done here and make it accessible to everyone. We do this with our podcasts, presentations, this website and now through visual abstracts. In almost all cases the research that we do ends up in published form in a peer reviewed scientific journal. The goal of a visual abstract is to present the information in a compelling visual way that lets the user decide whether they want to pursue 'the rest of the story.'
Tutorial - Beyond Journals: Creating Visual Abstracts for Wider Research Dissemination
Our Education Media Specialist, Audrey Cobb, created this online tutorial to help others create visual abstracts. The tutorial provides useful introduction that serves as the basis for the "what" and "why" of a visual abstract. The tutorial also covers planning, design principles and creating (in which there is a nice video showing how to use Adobe's free tool Spark for creating visuals). The tutorial can be found at: https://www.mirecc.va.gov/visn19/education/visual_abstracts/creating/.
