Learn how to tap into VA education and training benefits for yourself and your family and find other ways to make college more affordable.

  • VA education benefits help Veterans, service members, and their qualified family members with needs like paying college tuition, finding the right school or training program, and getting career counseling. Learn how to apply for and manage the education and training benefits you’ve earned.
  • Personalized Career Planning and Guidance, or VA Chapter 36, offers free educational and career guidance, planning, and resources to Veterans and their dependents who are eligible for a VA education benefit. Find out more and learn how to apply.
  • Going to school after serving in the military provides new opportunities. But sometimes, it can also bring challenges. Explore the VA College Toolkit to find resources for student Veterans.
  • GI Bill benefits help you pay for school and cover expenses while you’re training for a job. Since 1944, the GI Bill has helped qualifying Veterans and their family members get money to cover all or some of the costs for school or training. Learn more about GI Bill benefits and how to apply for them.
  • Find GI Bill approved schools and compare benefits with the GI Bill Comparison Tool. You can use your GI Bill benefits at some, but not all, schools. Use these resources to search for GI Bill approved schools, compare the benefits you’ll receive at different schools, and get more advice to help you choose a school.
  • Learn about a range of other VA education benefits that may help you get added GI Bill benefits including alternative programs if you’re a Veteran or a member of the National Guard or Reserve and you’re not eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
  • You may be able to continue your education by using part of your military pay to help cover the cost of school. Find out if you can get benefits through the Veterans’ Educational Assistance Program a $2-to-$1 government-match program for educational assistance.
  • If you’re the child or spouse of a Veteran or service member who has died, is captured or missing, or is permanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected disability, you may be eligible for the Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance program. Find out if the program, also called Chapter 35, may be able to help you pay for school or cover expenses while you’re training for a job.
