Yosef Sokol, Ph.D.
Yosef Sokol, Ph.D., is a Research Health Science Specialist at the VISN 2 MIRECC at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center. He also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Health Sciences at Touro University. Dr. Sokol’s research program focuses on recovery-oriented suicide prevention and the intersection of identity, temporal self-appraisal, and mental health. He is also a pioneer in the application of Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models (LLMs) to psychological assessment where he has developed computational methods to identify psychological constructs and suicide risk from natural language.
Dr. Sokol is currently the Principal Investigator on a VA RR&D Career Development Award (CDA-2) developing a novel identity-based treatment for Veterans who have recently experienced a suicidal episode (PASE). He is also the PI on an AFSP Mentored New Investigator Grant examining longitudinal recovery trajectories following suicidal episodes. Dr. Sokol received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University.
