Looking for educational opportunities to enhance you or your program’s knowledge of and ability to provide recovery-oriented care? The VISN 5 MIRECC offers educational webinars and seminars on a variety of mental health recovery-related topics. One example of this is the VA National Mental Health Recovery and Wellness Webinar series, a monthly educational series for VA providers/staff sponsored in partnership by the VHA Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Services Section in the Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, the VISN 5 Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC), and the Veterans Health Administration Employee Education System.* Held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 12pm-1pm EST, this series focuses on advancements and developments in recovery-oriented mental health care. Upcoming webinars include: “Meaning, Purpose, and Belonging: The Role of Psychosocial and Vocational Rehabilitation in Suicide Prevention” presented by Drs. Shana Bakken and Dan Bradford on June 8th; and “VA Connection Plans: An Introduction and Clinical Training on a Social Connection Intervention for Veterans” presented by Drs. Amanda Peeples, Samantha Hack, and Anjana Muralidharan on May 11th. CEUs are available for these webinars. Previously recorded webinars are available on demand on the VISN 5 MIRECC Recovery Webinar webpage. Topics have included dialectical behavior therapy tools in lethal means safety counseling, use of peer support specialists in the delivery of cognitive behavioral social skills training, promoting recovery, resilience and suicide prevention via holistic and spiritually integrated treatments, and trainees as promoters of recovery on inpatient mental health units.
In addition to the monthly webinar series, MIRECC investigators can offer educational seminars to individual VA programs/clinics or facilities nationwide on a range of mental health recovery and recovery-oriented care-related topics. Seminars generally last one hour, but they can be modified to fit program needs and schedules. Potential seminar topics MIRECC investigators can provide include strategies for addressing mental health stigma, promoting community integration, family involvement and services, and treatment of early psychosis, to name a few. For a full list of potential offerings see the Seminars webpage. If you are interested in learning more about these seminars or would like to discuss partnering with the MIRECC to offer an educational seminar at your site contact Anjana Muralidharan, Ph.D. at Anjana.Muralidharan2@va.gov.
