Neuroscience Lab
This lab is developing pre-clinical models of an array of post-deployment mental health issues by studying the behavior and neurocircuitry of animals that have been genetically modified so that genes identified in the human genetics core are 'knocked-out' in the animal model. This study of transgenic animals will thus help identify the functions of genes that have been identified as increasing the risk of post-deployment mental health. Animal models will also be used to study the effects of neurotoxins on brain function. These models will therefore integrate seamlessly with the remaining research cores, facilitating transfer of insights derived from basic research to the bedside.
