R. Ross MacLean, Ph.D.


Dr. R. Ross MacLean is a licensed Psychologist at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven CT. He is also an Assistant Professor in the Yale School of Medicine. He completed his doctorate at Pennsylvania State University and completed his clinical internship at VA Connecticut Healthcare System. His clinical and research interests focus on developing treatments for addiction and co-occurring conditions. More specifically, he is interested in treatments that have a low patient and provider burden that leverage technology to deliver treatment and better measure treatment outcomes. This includes the use of intensive longitudinal methods such as ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to track progress and engage individuals in treatment. He is currently the recipient of a 5-year VA Clinical Science R&D Career Development Award to develop a brief behavioral pain treatment for Veterans with opioid use disorder receiving medications for opioid use disorder.

    A Clinical Science Research and Development (CSR&D) CDA-2 to develop and evaluate a brief behavioral pain treatment for Veterans with OUD and chronic pain. 2021 – 2025.
  • Opioid and pain cognitive bias modification in opioid use disorder (PI)
    A VISN-1 Career Development award that evaluated cognitive bias modification for opioid and pain cues in Veterans with OUD and chronic pain. 2018-2020.
