The MIDAS Touch for Active Projects

By Ellen Fischer, PhD and the MIDAS Consultation Team

MIDAS (MIRECC Implementation, Design and Analysis Support) offers no cost methodologic support to SC MIRECC affiliates in VISN 16 and San Antonio. Because not all eligible users are familiar with MIDAS, we have been providing a glimpse into the process of working with MIDAS. Our first piece, which appeared in the Fall 2022 Newsletter, described a collaboration with the MIDAS team on development and successful conduct of a pilot study. This second infographic piece briefly describes some types of more limited collaboration that MIDAS has provided in support of projects that are already underway.

Dr. Ellen Teng requested biostatistical support for analysis of a subset of data from her ongoing IIR Improving Veteran Functioning with Intensive Transdiagnostic CBT for Anxiety. Dr. Amber Amspoker provided consultation on appropriate analytic approaches to use with data and collaborated with the team as they prepared a manuscript based on IIR findings. Dr. Jeffrey Pyne requested support to complete psychometric analyses for his ongoing IIR Development of the Perceived Access Inventory for Mental Healthcare. Dr. P. Adam Kelly worked with the project analytic team to complete a set of psychometric analyses that led to a series of publications on various aspects of the validity of the PAI measure. Dr. Ellen Fischer requested support to revise the sampling strategy for a telephone survey of Veterans for Tailoring Interventions for Rural Veterans: What We Need to Know. Dr. Songthip Ounpraseuth brainstormed with project investigators and statisticians to generate a representative sampling strategy. The strategy was successful in recruiting the target survey sample.
