Highlighted Articles

Dr. Julianna Hogan coauthored “Digital navigator training to increase access to mental health care in community-based organizations” (First author: N. Alon) in Psychiatric Services. The authors trained 80 participants from 21 organizations to demonstrate the training's feasibility, acceptability, and need. Case studies explore the implementation of this training curriculum. As technology's potential in mental health care expands, training can empower digital navigators to ensure that the use of digital tools is informed, equitable, and clinically relevant.

Drs. Corey Hayes (First author) and Michael Cucciare published “Development and validation of machine-learning algorithms predicting retention, overdoses, and all-cause mortality among US military veterans treated with buprenorphine for opioid use disorder” in the Journal of Addictive Diseases. Authors found that machine-learning algorithms can accurately predict opioid use disorder-related outcomes with moderate predictive performance; however, prediction of these outcomes is driven by many characteristics.

Drs. Amanda Raines (first author) and Laurel Harlin published “A bifactor evaluation of self-report and clinician-administered measures of PTSD in Veterans” in Assessment. Although additional research is needed to make definitive statements about the utility of PCL-5 and CAPS-5 subscales, study findings point to numerous weaknesses. As such, caution should be exercised when using or interpreting subscale scores in future research.
